Granville Health System Board Chairman L.C. Adcock Receives NC Hospital Association Award
Adcock Recognized for Commitment to Community and Quality Care
Granville Health System (GHS) announced that Mr. L.C. Adcock was selected to receive a North Carolina Hospital Association Trustee Award. The award, which recognizes outstanding trustees who have contributed substantially to their hospitals and communities, was presented at a luncheon on Saturday, April 18, at the Trustee Institute in Myrtle Beach.
Adcock, a former Granville County commissioner and educator, joined the board of trustees at Granville Health System in January 1998 and began serving as chairman in January 2006. Before joining the health system’s board of trustees, Adcock had promoted the ideals of leadership and “community first” throughout his career. As a public leader and educator, he left no stone unturned while seeking to improve the organizations and community he serves.
“Mr. Adcock has led the organization through a critical time of change,” said GHS Board Vice-chairman Dave Currin. “He positioned Granville Health System as a community health partner and medical service provider of choice for the region. His leadership has allowed the health system to prosper, be a vital part of the community and a good employer in the county. He has brought stability, an exceptional reputation and a positive financial outlook to the organization,” continued Currin.
Adcock’s previous role in education spanned 35 continuous years. He held the position of Superintendent of Granville County Schools from 1967 to 1985. In addition, Adcock held the positions of assistant superintendent, school principal and teacher. In 1990, Adcock was elected for a four-year term to the Granville Board of Commissioners. He was re-elected in 1994 for another term and served as Chairman of the Board for two years. An active board member, Adcock also held a chair on the Departmental Operations and Financial Operations & Personnel Committees.
While serving as a commissioner, Adcock also stepped in as interim County Manager and liaison to the school board, once again answering the call of public service. His name has been synonymous with success, effectively managing public projects while holding membership on the Vance/Granville District Health Department Board, Oxford/Granville Disabilities Advisory Committee, Oxford Economic Development Commission Board, Motor Vehicle Valuation Review Committee and Hospital Finance & Planning Group.
Granville Health System has overcome significant challenges under Adcock’s leadership. As the surrounding population was expanding and the need for quality health care close to home was growing, Adcock led the health system as it added new service lines, recruited medical staff and acquired new regional health care providers. Through acquisition of facilities such as Granville Primary Care, Butner-Creedmoor and Granville Primary Care, Stovall, Adcock assured the expansion of access to quality health care throughout Granville County.
Granville Health System has experienced significant financial growth during Adcock’s tenure as chairman. “In a time of overwhelming economic uncertainty, he has positioned Granville Health System to set its own path,” added Currin. “We’ve grown instead of consolidated, improved quality instead of just maintaining services, and moved forward as a leader in the region instead of following other health care providers.”
